NOSE RINGS: YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED
What types of nose piercings are there?
The two most popular nose piercings are the nostril, on the side of your nose, and the septum, through the center. Nostril piercings can wear studs, nose screws, or hoops, while septum piercings are usually fitted with a ring or clicker. Our collection includes styles for both.
What's the difference between a nose stud and a nose ring?
A nose stud sits flat on the outside of your nostril and is held in place by a flat back, screw, or bone shape on the inside. A nose ring, often called a nose hoop, wraps around the edge of your nostril. Many people start with a stud and add a hoop once their piercing is fully healed.
What are the best nose rings for sensitive skin?
Material matters most. Looking for hypoallergenic nose rings? Our ASTM F136 implant-grade titanium and 14k solid gold are both nickel-free, so they're a top choice for sensitive skin. We publish our third-party testing and mill certificates, so you can see exactly what you're wearing.
What gauge are your nose rings?
Our flat backs, clicker hoops, and nose screws come in a range of gauges, so check each product listing for its exact gauge. Most standard earrings are 20g, and many nose piercings are 18g or 20g, but yours may differ depending on how you were pierced.
Not sure of your size? Your piercer can measure your piercing for you, or check the packaging or receipt from your current jewelry. Never force a thicker gauge into a piercing. If a piece doesn't slide in easily, stop and choose a thinner gauge.
Each listing also has wearing instructions for that style. Read them before you insert your jewelry, especially for thicker gauges. Still have questions? Contact us and we'll help you find the right fit.
How do flat back nose studs stay in?
A small flat disc sits against the inside of your nostril, and the decorative top pushes into the post. The flat back keeps it from slipping out, and it's comfortable on the inside of your nose.
Can I wear a hoop in a new nose piercing?
Most piercers start a new nostril piercing with a stud, because hoops move more and can irritate healing tissue. Wait until your piercing is fully healed, and check with your piercer before switching. In Portland? Our sister studio, Stacked Piercing, offers professional piercing and jewelry fittings.
Do you have nose rings for men?
Yes! Our minimal titanium studs and smooth clicker hoops are favorites with everyone. Browse our men's collection for more low-key styles.
Can you sleep and shower in titanium nose rings?
Yes. Titanium and solid gold won't rust or tarnish, so you can shower, swim, and sleep in your nose jewelry. Our flat back studs and seamless clickers have nothing sticking out to catch on your pillow or towel.
