Flat Back Stud Earrings for Men

A flat back stud sits flush against the back of the lobe, so there's no post digging in when you sleep, and nothing to catch on a pillow or headphones. The front is all you see; the back just disappears. It’s the most comfortable stud a person can wear and the easiest to leave in 24/7.

Ours range from a solitaire round to a smooth sphere to a laser-cut disc, designed right here in the U.S.A.

We use ASTM F-136 implant-grade titanium exclusively, the same standard used for medical implants and professional body piercing. Our titanium is biocompatible, non-tarnishing, and safe enough for a fresh piercing, which means it’s more than safe enough for your everyday pair. Wear it through showers, sleep, swimming, and workouts. It won’t itch, tarnish, or turn.

    Hoop Earrings for Men

A little more presence, and a popular choice for a reason. Ours are locking sleeper hoops, which means they click shut and stay shut. They're small and clean, and they're just enough to be noticed.

Durable, affordable, and a great everyday choice once your piercings are fully healed. One honest caveat, and we’d rather tell you than sell you: we don’t recommend stainless steel for a piercing that isn’t fully healed yet. If you’re still in the healing window, stay with titanium or solid gold until you’re through it, then wear whatever you like.

    14k Gold Earrings for Men

Not plated. Not filled. Solid 14k gold the whole way through, so there’s no coating to wear off and no base metal underneath. These styles pair timeless appeal with unmatched durability, using one of the most skin-safe materials in jewelry. The pair you buy once and keep on for years, not months.

How to Choose Men’s Earrings | A Short Guide

    1. Start with a flat back stud

In our opinion, this is one of the most comfortable things you can put in your ear. Nothing presses into the back of the lobe, and they'll never get in the way. Live in it for a week before you reach for anything else.

    2. CHOOSE YOUR METAL

If you're still healing (or if your skin has ever reacted to fast-fashion jewelry), start with our uncoated implant-grade titanium or solid 14k gold. Piercing studios trust both for a fresh piercing.

Our metals are third-party tested for purity, so when we say they're 100% nickel-free, we mean it.

    3. Size down before you size up

Small reads intentional. A flat back stud or a tight locking hoop looks considered; anything oversized could fight the rest of what you’re wearing. When in doubt, go smaller.

    4. Which ear?

Whichever one you want. There’s no rule worth repeating here: wear it on the side you like, or wear a pair.

    5. One or a pair?

A single stud or small hoop reads classic and timeless. A matched pair reads more deliberate and balanced. It's your call.

    Men’s Earrings FAQ

What’s the best earring for men to start with?

A flat back stud. It sits flush against the back of the lobe, so there’s no post digging in when you sleep, and it’s comfortable enough to wear 24/7. It’s the most versatile earring a man can own and the easiest to leave in. Hot tip: grab one of our flat back applicators for an easy, 10-second earring change at home.

    What are flat back earrings?

Flat back earrings have a smooth, flat disc on the back of the lobe instead of a traditional butterfly or screw back. Nothing sticks out behind the ear, which makes them more comfortable to sleep in and less likely to snag. They’re the standard for everyday wear.

Can men sleep in their earrings?

Yes. Flat back studs and hoops are designed to be low-profile enough to sleep in comfortably. Flat backs in particular were built for it. There’s nothing on the back of the lobe to press against a pillow.

What metal is best for sensitive ears?

Implant-grade titanium (ASTM F-136) and solid 14k gold are among the safest choices for sensitive or nickel-reactive skin. Both are nickel-safe and independently verified. Titanium and 14k gold are the same materials our professional piercers use in fresh piercings next door at our piercing studio.

Which earrings are safe for a piercing that’s still healing?

Only uncoated implant-grade titanium or solid 14k gold. We don’t recommend stainless steel for a piercing that isn’t fully healed. Steel alloys can contain traces of nickel, and a healing piercing is far less forgiving than healed skin. Once you’re fully healed, stainless steel is a great everyday option.

Which ear should a man get pierced?

Either. There’s no meaning worth attaching to one side over the other. Wear your earring on whichever ear you prefer, or get both done.

Are hoops or studs better for men?

Flat back studs are more subtle and the easiest to live in; hoops add more visible style and movement. Studs are the safer everyday pick, hoops are the bolder one, both work.
