Everyday elegance
Founder Katy Kippen started Grayling in 2009 to fulfill her need for high-quality jewelry safe for her sensitive skin. What began as a small, one-person endeavor evolved steadily into a women-led team of talented jewelers.
THE BEAUTY OF HANDMADE
For fifteen years, Grayling's team of jewelry artisans has brought Katy's original ideas to life in the company's Portland, Oregon, studio. Marrying modern trends with classic silhouettes, the design team selects and sources its raw materials with ethics and sustainability in mind.
In addition, the company emphasizes working with third-party-verified recycled metals whenever possible, including SCS Global Certified gold and sterling silver.
As the brand expanded, Grayling enhanced its offerings by forming partnerships with highly skilled artists and craftspeople on a global scale.
OUR MISSION
When you shop with us, you support all our missions right alongside us: handmade jewelry crafted by artisans who care, fair-wage jobs that are open to everyone, and our commitment to constantly reinvesting in the communities around us. Every purchase you make, every link you share, and every rave review you take the time to write allows us to reach new audiences of people with sensitive skin (like our Founder)!
We believe in transparency and want to be honest: many styles are handcrafted from start to finish in our Portland studio, but some are crafted to our specifications elsewhere. Certain designs require large equipment we cannot afford and expertise we do not have.
To offer our customers a well-rounded product assortment, we partner with two SGS-audited, ISO 9001-certified facilities in China. These global partners manufacture our components from implant-grade titanium and solid 14k gold, much of it recycled.
Our partner facilities have SGS certifications that demonstrate a commitment to quality control and worker safety, which align with our company values. As an additional layer of testing, all imported items are third-party inspected in the U.S. to ensure compliance with ASTM standards. Since jewelry comes into contact with our skin, safety and quality are essential.
