1. IS TITANIUM BIOCOMPATIBLE?
Yes! ASTM F-136 Titanium is extremely lightweight and biocompatible, making it ideal for people with sensitive skin. Grayling exclusively uses ASTM F-136 implant-grade titanium in our designs. We use the same high-quality titanium preferred by top piercers in our titanium jewelry.
2. IS TITANIUM SAFE FOR FRESH PIERCINGS?
The APP recommends only a few materials for fresh/initial piercings that are actively healing, and ASTM F-136 implant-grade titanium is one of our favorites! This grade of titanium is lightweight and boasts exceptional durability. Please note the PVD gold finish on our titanium jewelry may not be suitable for fresh piercings (we recommend 14k solid gold for fresh piercings if you want that beautiful warm color instead of a silver-tone look).
3. IS TITANIUM SENSITIVE SKIN FRIENDLY?
You bet! ASTM F-136 titanium is free from cadmium, lead, and nickel, making it a perfect selection for those with sensitive skin, including our Founder, Katy. But be careful, because the grade of titanium is really important! Please look for implant-certified titanium jewelry that is ASTM F-136, ASTM F1295, ISO 5832-3, or ASTM F-67 compliant to be sure you're getting what you pay for.
4. WILL TITANIUM HELP MY PIERCING HEAL?
Yes! Designed with a high-polished mirror finish, our flat back earrings and studs promote safe healing for piercings. This quality helps minimize the risk of scar tissue formation and supports faster healing. Again, we suggest going with pure ASTM F-136 titanium instead of other metals for fresh piercings. Your skin will thank you!
5. WHY ARE TITANIUM EARRINGS SO LIGHTWEIGHT?
Because F-136 titanium is almost HALF the weight of its (equally popular) counterpart, F-138 surgical stainless steel! This makes a significant difference in tender or stretched ear lobes and thin cartilage. We offer threadless, push-pin-style flat-back studs, hinged segment rings, huggies, nose studs, and other jewelry styles (commonly referred to as threadless labrets) in titanium because it makes ears so dang happy!
6. WHY IS TITANIUM JEWELRY SO POPULAR?
It's lightweight, comfortable, and durable (hey, if it's strong enough for airplanes and spacecraft, it's strong enough for body jewelry).
