How to Clean Titanium Jewelry

Jewelry looking a touch dingy? That probably just means you've been comfortably living in your pieces! Luckily, titanium is not only the #1 most biocompatible metal in the world (so you absolutely CAN live in it!), but it is also one of the most durable and long-lasting materials, which makes cleaning titanium jewelry an absolute breeze.

To brighten up a dull titanium piece, all you really need is mild soap + warm water! Just as this metal is safe to wear in piercings (even fully INSIDE your body, as done with medical implants!), you can clean it as you would yourself. The easiest and most effortless method? Wash right along with your body while in the shower! These pieces were designed to stay on you through all your daily activities, including bathing, and need nothing special to quickly clean them up while you're rinsing down.

Or, if you're more of a do-it-in-one-load type of cleaner, simply grab your titanium jewelry pieces and (gently) toss them together in a mild, soapy, warm water bath. You can use a soft-bristled toothbrush or even just your fingers to gently agitate the bubbles and remove any dirt or debris. Rinse, and lay out on cloth or paper towels to dry completely before wear or storage.

Avoid using any harsh chemicals or hard cleaning agents (i.e. a scouring pad, steel wool or pre-treated polishing cloths and ammonia), especially if your piece includes any gemstones. While titanium is very scratch-resistant, gemstones and enamel are softer and more susceptible to damage. Even a polished or engraved titanium surface can be scratched if using very abrasive materials - a microfiber cloth (NOT a treated polishing cloth) can go along way to quickly shine up these pieces without worry of harming the surfaces.

How to Clean Titanium Jewelry: Takeaways

  1. Wash the pieces you wear every day right along with you in the bath or shower!
  2. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials; mild soap and warm water, or a microfiber cloth, are best.
  3. Rinse your jewelry after being worn in salt or chlorinated water and dry before storing properly.

Cleaning and maintaining titanium is so easy — that's why it's becoming a more and more popular choice for stress-free accessorizing!

Your jewelry can really benefit from being stored properly to avoid contact with various substances or surfaces, and causing tarnish, scratching + misshaping. Luckily titanium is one of the best metals for jewelry as it's exceptionally strong and extremely resistant to bending or dings. Its ability to hold its shape, even in very small or daintier pieces, makes it the ideal choice for rings, small stud or flat back earrings, sunglasses and wristwatches. Titanium jewelry is sought-after for everyday wear as these pieces will hold up under a great amount of pressure, so they ready to take whatever you may go through in your day to day, from sunrise to sunset (and well into the night)!

Besides being one of the easiest metals to take care of, we are also obsessed with Titanium in jewelry applications because

  • It's incredibly biocompatible! Used for medical implants and piercing jewelry so you know it's safe for sensitive skin and perfect to help heal irritated or infected piercings too!
  • It won't oxidize or rust with a self-healing, naturally occurring layer of titanium oxide that creates a barrier of protection against corrosion.
  • Titanium is both extremely strong and shockingly lightweight, making it perfect for long wear, as the pieces (big or small) will keep their integrity while never weighing you down!
  • It's 100% recyclable! That means it completely maintains its quality even being melted down and recycled over and over again - we stan a sustainable queen against all the damage mining causes!
  • It's seriously waterproof, even in hot tubs, chlorinated pools, sulfuric hot springs and seawater. Just rinse the pieces off after to ensure any harsh chemicals are washed away.
